Clash of Clans is one of the most popular mobile games on the market today, and it provides players with the opportunity to act as chief of a village in a barbaric and magic land. Players will be given an essentially blank village that they must build up by collecting resources that can be exchanged for new buildings or upgrades to existing buildings.
The variety of options in Clash of Clans is almost overwhelming at first. Players can build resource collectors that will naturally collect both gold and elixir from the environment as time progresses, and they can build armies that can attack other villages in order to steal some of their resources. Players must balance their defensive and offensive progress so that they don't lose too many of their own resources while pillaging other villages for maximum loot.
One of the most interesting aspects of the game is that players can use their empty land to create any imaginable orientation or organization of their village. Much like other city-building games, players will have resource storages that must be protected, as well as a Town Hall that acts as the heart of the village. In Clash of Clans, players are only given one builder to get everything done, but by using Gems, the in-game currency that can be purchased with real-world money, players can purchase new builders to increase their rate of progress. Gems are also used to finish actions instantly since all building and troop-training actions come with hefty time requirements. At the highest level of the game, some buildings take as long as two weeks to increase from one level to the next.
Players are also given wall pieces that can be used to create a barrier around their village. Those pieces can be aligned in any configuration, so the possibilities are endless. Wall pieces can be upgraded as well for additional protection, and they can make a huge difference when it comes to the defense of your village. When a player attacks a village, they merely drop their troops around the perimeter and let them follow their preset attack patterns. Walls prevent ground troops from moving forward, which can cause them to ring around the village, missing all the valuable resources.
Attacking is the root of the game. Players will have a limited number of troops to train when they are first starting since there are a number of factors that limit army size and skill. As you increase the level of your army camps, you can hold more troops. As you increase the level of your training barracks, you unlock additional troops. As you research troops in the Laboratory, the individual troop levels will increase. Creating the perfect army is a constant struggle since no two villages are alike.
